I've admitted in the past that I will wait around for a meuvie's release for quite a bit of time, but this is ridiculous! Over a year ago I posted a big ol' list of horror meuvies I was dying to see and since then I have in fact seen them all... all except for Hissss which seems to not really even have a release date. I realize that director Jennifer Lynch probably has nothing to do with this, but I am semi-blaming her for it because I was just beginning to warm up to her thanks to her film Surveillance and was dying to see her follow-up.
             And now?
Now she is boiling my potatoes because I got nuthin'. And I don't like when my potatoes boil.
             HURRY UP!

I Love Catherine Breillat.

I’ve been writing for Gutter for about three and a half years now I feel the need to perhaps branch out a bit from just plain old film reviews. Granted, this isn’t going to be anything drastic and I doubt any of you will notice the change but it’s time to throw in some different things to spice up my little Gore Whore world. That being said, I would like for you all to give a standing ovation for one of my favorite film directors out there--- who happens to have a new film out entitled Bluebeard which is available on Netflix--- Ms. Catherine Breillat!

I was first introduced to the works of Ms. Briellat 5 years ago when I was at the young and impressionable age of 21. You see, I was working at the Starbucks in Barnes & Noble at The Inner Harbor at the time when a fellow employee of mine informed me that we were being gifted with a lurvely Employee Appreciation discount and everything in the store was fair game. This shouldn’t come to as a surprise, but I immediately skipped over to the DVD section and got my peruse on. After being there for what felt like ages, I finally settled on a  film which I was utterly unfamiliar with Fat Girl:

You wouldn’t guess this from the trailer posted above, but as the credits rolled I was most certainly taken aback; I had seen many a film by that time in my young life but never one so graphic and dark directed by a woman--- yes, I was profiling someone based upon their gender--- and I fell instantly in love with her, her style of storytelling, and her style of filmmaking.
She was a hero(ine) to me.
Since that faithful day I have watched many of her magnetic films. Never one to shy away from sex or the sexual awakening of females most were wonderfu

But one or two may have made me squirm a little in my seat:

Either way, this woman has got to be one of the most powerful and amazing filmmakers of the last 35 years and I happen to find it a pity that more people aren't familiar with her work. Therefore I implore you, ladies and gentlemen, to hop on your internets and watch her films as soon as you have a spot of free time. You shan't be disappointed!

As many of you out there know---because you've listened to me whine about it--- over the past month I have been dealing with having to find a place to live, losing my job, getting a new job, and moving into an area of town which just doesn't feel like home. Because of these reasons I have become lax at updating you with the extremely important words I have to say on the world of cinema. On the plus side though, I have been catching up on some really great meuvies and you know what that means: Trailer parade with new and improved blurbs!
