Australian musos have been a bit of a magnet to the London music scene lately, with the likes of Gabriella Cilmi and Empire of the Sun already making themselves heard. The latest Aussie to call London home is Sydney sweetheart Sarah Blasko, whose newest album ‘As Day Follows Night’ was released this month in the UK. The album which was co produced by Bjorn Yitting of Peter, Bjorn and John has been receiving rave reviews and has won radio station Triple J’s album of the year award, along with an Australia Record Industry Award in which Blasko took home female vocalist of the year.

Blasko's hauntingly beautiful voice has won the hears of many Australians and is sure to have a place in the London music scene. She will be playing shows in London throughout April to help promote her album – her first show is at the o2 Academy in Islington on the 15th of April.

Deep Love

Despite it's name Deep Love is not a romantic epic. It may be a cartoon, but it's not aimed at kids. It was in fact the first 'novel' developed for a mobile phone. Author Yoshi wrote the story exclusively to be read by bored commuters or people waiting around twiddling with their phones, however it's success has meant that since its inception it's been published in comic form and a TV series featuring the same characters has been shown on Japanese TV.

The gritty story follows a teenager named Ayu with a very grim view of the world. Believing there is nothing more important than money she views her body as an asset and prostitutes herself. Meanwhile her boyfriend Kenji slides into a serious drug addiction and one of her friends is gang raped. How's that for a cartoon storyline?

Mobile phone novels are so popular now that according to the New York Times 5 of the 10 best selling novels in Japan in 2007 were meant for mobiles. The main demographic is young teenage girls and most of the plots are romantic, however there is scope for so much more - just see the novel above. The movement has gained popularity in China and Taiwan, and is now moving to Europe thanks to writers like Oliver Bendel. I might need to consider upgrading my phone.
